claustrophobia: the spooky closet

this is the spooky closet that was made for the independent feature film CLAUSTROPHOBIA. a combination of lycra and latex wrapped around a wooden frame helped achieve the effect of the walls having menacing beings trapped in them trying to escape.

these are still frames from the shoot. i think that's my face in the third one down.

SPOOKY~

claustrophobia: the bone beast clown

the bone beast clown was made for the independent feature film CLAUSTROPHOBIA.

much like the original bone beast (posted below) the bone beast clown was made with a wire and mesh frame, built up with tin foil and then i sculpted on top of all that with sculpey. the only difference here (besides design) was the addition of an eyeball that had to fit into a socket and move around and the entire thing had to fit a specific mask the director wanted to use. that part was actually rather tricky. but once i had the skull the right shape the details went in rather nicely. all that was left was to muck up the original mask and secure it in place.

the bone beast clown is also a puppet and was animated coming out of the ground (the jaws were fitted with some brass casing and replaceable armature wire). i went to a park in pasadena in the middle of the night with my roomie sebastian who was also working on the film. it was december and we could only go at night. it was such a horrible experience, we were so freakin cold. my fingers were frozen trying to animate the darn thing in the cold dirt. but we got it done and it looks real good. the footage can be seen on my fabrication reel posted above.

claustrophobia: the bone beast

the bone beast was made for independent feature film CLAUSTROPHOBIA.

this beast was made around november 2008. his base is wire frame and mesh, then i built up the form with tin foil and finished him off with sculpey. the bone beast is actually a puppet and was animated coming out of the ground. the director did not have a lot of money to spend on production costs so the original sculpture was used for the animation. it was tricky because the head was rather heavy but we were able to make it work. unfortunately that footage will not be used in the film but you can see it on my fabrication reel a few posts up.

bone beast, you not cookin!

i love this stage, when the piece is all done baking and has a nice white coat of gesso. it looks so clean and crisp.

this was the first stage of painting, just some simple black paint application and wiping it away from the raised surfaces.

final stage of beast. he had to have this clown look to him so i applied some chunky pieces of discarded balloon rubber and the hair from a clown wig.

space bear!

space bear is a costume i made on the fly for halloween 2008. made out of cardboard, duct tape and lots and lots of glitter.

space bear is going to be in the intro to the feature film BRAINWASHED LOVE so if you ever see it look for me bouncing around and dancing in costume at the halloween party scene.

the wind wolf

the wind wolf is a sculpture that was made as one piece but i decided it was rather boring like that so i chopped it into three pieces, got rid of the chest and front legs all together and mounted the head and back end on some wood pieces. the end result is much more interesting i think. sculpted, chopped and painted in 2006.
