claustrophobia: the bone beast clown

the bone beast clown was made for the independent feature film CLAUSTROPHOBIA.

much like the original bone beast (posted below) the bone beast clown was made with a wire and mesh frame, built up with tin foil and then i sculpted on top of all that with sculpey. the only difference here (besides design) was the addition of an eyeball that had to fit into a socket and move around and the entire thing had to fit a specific mask the director wanted to use. that part was actually rather tricky. but once i had the skull the right shape the details went in rather nicely. all that was left was to muck up the original mask and secure it in place.

the bone beast clown is also a puppet and was animated coming out of the ground (the jaws were fitted with some brass casing and replaceable armature wire). i went to a park in pasadena in the middle of the night with my roomie sebastian who was also working on the film. it was december and we could only go at night. it was such a horrible experience, we were so freakin cold. my fingers were frozen trying to animate the darn thing in the cold dirt. but we got it done and it looks real good. the footage can be seen on my fabrication reel posted above.
