claustrophobia: the bone beast

the bone beast was made for independent feature film CLAUSTROPHOBIA.

this beast was made around november 2008. his base is wire frame and mesh, then i built up the form with tin foil and finished him off with sculpey. the bone beast is actually a puppet and was animated coming out of the ground. the director did not have a lot of money to spend on production costs so the original sculpture was used for the animation. it was tricky because the head was rather heavy but we were able to make it work. unfortunately that footage will not be used in the film but you can see it on my fabrication reel a few posts up.

bone beast, you not cookin!

i love this stage, when the piece is all done baking and has a nice white coat of gesso. it looks so clean and crisp.

this was the first stage of painting, just some simple black paint application and wiping it away from the raised surfaces.

final stage of beast. he had to have this clown look to him so i applied some chunky pieces of discarded balloon rubber and the hair from a clown wig.
