bison!

i made this bison puppet costume back in april 2009. i had no idea what i was doing, i had never made anything like it before and i really didn't know how to sew but i did it anyway and i am really glad i did because it was a lot of fun and i learned a whole lot by jumping in feet first.

the hump of the bison is like a giant puffy ski mask filled with pollyfill, there are holes in the fur there for vision. the head is sculpted foam and then i glued the fur around it. the head and mouth are controlled by one of those claw things that you can use to pick stuff off the floor with, it is attached to a long cardboard cylinder that rests on your stomach.

i don't think jose the security guard really likes bison, he just walked right on by. video of my bison in action can be seen a couple posts up on my fabrication reel.

baby mammoth

after making bison i had a bunch of scraps left over so i decided to make a hand puppet.

robot be-bop

i made this film while at calarts. fellow student, gregory sesma, did most of the animation. i made all the puppets, sets, did the story, directing, editing and all that other good stuff.

Robot Be-Bop from caroline foley on Vimeo.

a total of ten robots and about eleven sets were made for the film. i have broken the sets down into five basic categories: inside the factory, outside the factory, the construction site, mr. awesome's office (inside and out) and the grand finale stage. pictures of each area are posted below.

the wolf and the mermaid: the kitchen

this set was built for fellow student, gregory sesma, around the 2005/2006 school year (i could be a year off). the original design for the kitchen was drawn by another fellow student, justin parpan, and then i translated that into what you see here. the coolest part about this set isn't even visible, i made a little pocket above the fridge and stove (right where the pipes are) with a small plastic covering that mini flows could sit in emulating the effect of an overhead light. i don't have any pictures of that but trust me, it looked cool! the props were the most fun part for me.

the wolf and the mermaid: the house exterior

this set was made for fellow student, gregory sesma, sometime around the 2005/2006 school year (i could be off by a year though). the house was designed by another fellow student, josh parpan, and i translated the design into the set you see here. the windows are made out of painted plastic so when you shine a light behind it you can see the glow.
